Remember!
- Links to Catalyst are tricky, as once a patron lands in Catalyst it will be either a St. Olaf or a Carleton environment based on the URL.
- Off campus access links will have to be unique to each school, so linking to subscription resources will require extreme care.
- Always REUSE content whenever possible, rather than making new copies of things that are already in the system. Reuse boxes, links, etc, unless there's a need for a unique copy.
How to....
Make it so that a long URLs that need to be visible as URLs don't spill out of their boxes:
When you've finished writing, click the "Source" button on the far right of the writing toolbar. Find the long string of text, and surround the whole thing with some new code.
- At the very beginning put "<div class="dont-break-out">" (if it's a link, put this just before "<a href...")
- At the very end put "</div>" (if it's a link, put it after the "</a>")
So, for example, here's a long link that both looks like a URL to the reader and also links out to that URL.
Create reusable text blocks
If you have blocks of text you'd like to use in more than one place, add a "Media / Widget" block rather than an "Rich Text / HTML" block. Be sure to give it a title so that you can find it again to reuse it!
Indent text to the same level as a list of links
- Highlight the text you want to indent
- Press the indent button in the writing toolbar
- Click the "source" button on the far right of the writing toolbar
- Find where it says "margin-left: 40px;" and change at to "margin-left: 26px;"
