There are many different formats of e-books currently available, just as there are many different formats for image files (.jpg, .gif, .png, etc.) The main reason to be aware of the format of your e-book is so that you can find the proper device and/or software to view it with. Some of the most common are: .azw (Amazon Kindle), .kf8 (Kindle Fire), .iba (Apple iBook), .epub (Open source standard), .pdb (eReader), and .pdf (Adobe Portable Document Format).
Format | Devices | Apps |
.azw | Kindle | Native Kindle Software |
iOS | Kindle app | |
.epub | Nook | Native Nook Software |
iOS | Bluefire Reader app | |
.pdb | Nook | Native Nook Software |
iOS | NOOK app |
What the heck is a DRM? DRM stands for Digital Rights Management, and it is how content providers make sure we are using their materials within the terms of their license agreements.
